Bicycle Safety Education
Andrew Price, Chair
The Bicycle Safety Education Program is a partnership of the Auburn Civitans, the Auburn City Schools, and the City of Auburn.
Each year, every fourth-grade student in Auburn receives training in bike safety. This program, taught by P.E. teachers at each school, includes both classroom time and practical lessons on bikes.
The Civitans provide the bikes, equipment, and bike maintenance costs, and certificates for each student who completes the course.
A trailer purchased by the City of Auburn holds the bikes and equipment and travels to each school during the year.
The bikes are maintained by The Bike Shop (http://www.thebikeshopauburn.com/). |
In 2007, the Auburn Civitans received the City of Auburn Friend of the Bike Committee Award for our work on bicycle safety education and support of the Auburn Bike Bash.
